MPHCHE, Certified Birth Doula

Birth is a sacred and transformative journey.

At Nomie's Breath Doula Services, I walk with you through each stage, from pregnancy to postpartum, providing the guidance, presence, and care you deserve.

With every breath, we find strength, rhythm, and grounding.

My mission is to ensure that you and your family feel safe, supported, and empowered to embrace birth as a moment of transformation.

The Doula’s Role

Doulas provide person-centered, culturally competent care that supports the racial, ethnic, linguistic, and cultural diversity of birthing people and their families, while adhering to evidence-based best practices. Doula services are aimed at preventing perinatal complications and improving health outcomes for birthing parents and infants. Doulas are birth workers who provide health education, advocacy, and physical, emotional, and non-medical support for pregnant and postpartum persons before, during, and after childbirth, including support during miscarriage, stillbirth, and abortion.

Nomie’s Breath Doula Services provides non-medical, holistic, and community-centered care to birthing people and their families throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Our role is to offer information, navigation, physical and emotional support, and advocacy, ensuring each client is empowered to make informed decisions and experience care rooted in dignity, safety, and respect. We are committed to providing continuous, grounding support to help families move through birth with confidence, reduced stress, and a sense of safety.

Our support focuses on helping families transition into life after birth, including healing, newborn care, emotional well-being, and family adjustment. We will share current, culturally responsive, and evidence-based information. Your doula is contracted to provide you and your family with the support needed to reach your birthing goals, and therefore works for and with YOU, not the hospital. We will collaborate with your medical team while maintaining clear non-clinical boundaries.

Our Story

Every birth begins with a breath.

Nomie's Breath Doula Services was born from love, legacy, and purpose, and created in honor of my mother, Sharon, affectionately known as "Nomie."

Growing up, I watched my mother light up whenever she met a new baby. Holding newborns brought her pure joy. Her face would soften, her eyes would fill with happy tears, and for a moment, it seemed as though her breath had been taken away by love.

When her only baby had a baby, she gently kissed those tiny feet and whispered, "Hi, I'm your Nomie."

She was never Grandma. She was Nomie. She never wanted to be called Grandma. She was Nomie—"Not Your Mommy"—a name that reflected both her playful spirit and her unique way of loving children. Before long, she became everyone's Nomie.

As a teenager, I volunteered in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), holding and comforting newborns while their mothers rested and supporting families during some of life's most tender moments. Those experiences deepened my understanding of the importance of care, connection, and support during the earliest stages of life and planted the seeds for what would eventually become Nomie's Breath.

Today, Nomie's Breath Doula Services honors that calling and honors my mother, Sharon—our beloved Nomie. This work is more than a profession. It is purpose. It is legacy. It is love in action.

Nomie's Breath is a tribute to the woman who taught me that presence is one of the greatest gifts we can offer one another.

An elderly woman with gray hair, wearing glasses and a nasal oxygen tube, sitting on a red chair in front of a stone wall, dressed in a pink textured jacket and a black scarf.

“Love Like NomIe”

Poem by Deandra Kittles

A mother’s love is soft and pure. It’s the perfect remedy, sometimes a cure. Its presence is there from the cradle to the grave.

The perfect love is what Nomie gave. Her love was unconditional, true, and kind.

She was a safe place where you could say what was on your mind. She was encouraging— she wanted you to see it through. She gave you the strength you needed to believe in you.

Nomie was precious. She was a gift. She was always there to support and uplift.

So what do we do now that Nomie has gained her wings? We keep her legacy going with the love that we bring.

We love without limits, love without fear. We love as if Nomie was still here. Let our hearts be big and full of light. Let the joy be loud, let our words be bright. Take care of each other, like Nomie would. Love without expectations, let love stay true. Keep love whole, try not to love in parts.

And keep the love of Nomie in our hearts.
